Soul + Cinder Prints
Soul + Cinder was my COVID Lockdown project turned small business. It all started when I got into drawing wildlife using my iPad and shared these images online. Quickly I discovered that there was an appetite for these in print format, so alongside my wife, we set up a Shopify e-commerce site . I took all of my own photography to advertise our prints, creating mock-ups and assets for both paid social media ads and website content.
The Barge Cocktail Bar
Alongside the marketing team at Lincoln Students' Union, I lead the design for their new Cocktail Bar. After conducting market research, we found a gap in the area for an up-market sophisticated bar. We used the concept of an eccentric, well-travelled character that has brought their favourite cocktails from around the world to Lincoln, building a rich story behind the brand. I designed a custom logo and curated a bank of illustrations that complimented the witty copy used across the bar’s marketing and menu. The marketing and design led to intrigue from the public, resulting in a successful launch event and a positive reaction on social media.
Branding
I've worked on a variety of branding projects such as those I designed for new property developments. They were made in collaboration with the clients, reflecting the target buyer for each site, creating a strong visual identity and giving a more premium look to the building sites. WWMN (Working Women’s Movement Network) wanted a brand that represents sisterhood. I linked the two ‘W’s which symbolise women supporting each other, using a bold font and warm colour scheme to convey their strength and inclusive culture. LMVC a local male choir, wanted a more modern brand that would appeal to a younger demographic whilst having a strong link to Lincoln iconography. Using the iconic Lincoln Cathedral as dominant silhouette with three figures representing members of the choir as well as architectual features of the cathedral.
NEXT Homeware
These are a small selection of the products I worked on at NEXT where I worked on the illustrations and typography to decorate the homeware. I also designed products for departments including: Christmas decorations, home décor, lighting and stationery. I learned a lot about the commercial world through this job, working for a complex large scale organisation. This role allowed me to gain valuable insight into manufacturing as I liaised with factories all over the world to actualise my concepts. My homeware designs were distributed throughout Next’s stores at an international level.
The New Homes Agent
At The New Homes Agent I lead the visual development of the brand, modernising and building a stronger identity within the competitive Estate Agency market. This includes producing engaging content for social media, infographics, professional corporate documents, editing videos and photos and anything else with a visual element. On top of this, I design high quality branding packages for our clients which appeal to their target demographics and elevate the look of their building sites with signage and fencing covers. This boosted the speed and amount of sales from the sites.
EQVVS
At EQVVS I refined the brand direction as we grew in the menswear market so we could compete on a national scale. I created high quality social media content as well as digital and print marketing materials from emails to flyers. During my time, we achieved the highest sales, social media engagement and email click-throughs in their history. Additionally, I developed skills in UX/UI Design when we needed a new website to meet the higher level of demand, creating basic wireframes up to high fidelity designs based on extensive research and testing to optimise the e-commerce site for functionality, whilst upholding our premium aesthetic.
Kinetic New Homes Experts
Kinetic Estate Agents had launched a New Homes department and needed a brochure that informs developers of the new services they offer. The design needed to reflect their core values whilst appealing to a different demographic that expected a premium and sleek design. I have also designed branding and signage for a housing development, using a muted colour palette and a contemporary country style in order to reflect the properties exterior and interior details.
Lincoln Students' Union
I enjoyed designing both for the charity and commercial sides of the students’ union. The charity side involved developing the core brand to stay relevant to students, designing vinyl for the building and digital assets to boost our brand awareness. Commercially, we held events such as Freshers, gigs and festivals at The Engine Shed which we promoted through digital and print media. Vibrant colours and bold graphics were used throughout the marketing to convey a sense of fun and appeal to students.
